Talk about timing!

Just a couple of days ago, we've installed Unifi.  Too be frank, it's high time ..... No, I mean finally TM came to know what Broadband means.
I mean imagine telling your friend overseas, broadband internet? Of course we have, lah! But optical fiber??? What is that? It sound pretty dumb actually. Broad band that operates on the preexisting copper wire IS NOT BROAD BAND by definition.
I sincerely believe Malaysian has taken a quant/um leap forward(let's just not compare with other country, shall we?) with Unifi. For this, I must say "syabas" to TM, though we still have a long way to go.
Anyway, let's not ramble further.
Well, the package deal that we signed up for is RM169 per month, and with the introduction of Unifi, it marked a milestone, a moment that propelled Malaysia forward along with other countries into the age of information technology.
We signed up for a 5Mbyte, along with a home video decoder, and a telephone.
We were quite happy with the package when 2 days later upon installation, I received this from Maxis.
A USB modem that offers 7Mbytes. Why can't they send this like a few days earlier? They are charging RM68per month.
They sent the modem along with SIM card.
Now,lets see what's in the green box.
Most importantly, check whether the box has been tampered with or not by looking at the security sticker. Well, over here, I didn't do well in recreating what I did cause I already cut open the seal of safety.

Let's see what can be found inside the green box.
A manual,a battery???  Is that a battery? Why would the modem needs a battery if it's plugged onto a a computer,eh? And last but not least, a fresh but newly designed compact modem that has a nice looking ergonomically designed modem, with aluminum  finishing.
To install the modem, first, you would need to place the SIM card into it's place. Then the battery.
Then you key in the SSID number then wait till the light turns green, then enjoy your new net surfing experience.
But I ain't the kind of person who carries my laptop wherever I go. Unlike my camera or phone, this is non essential.

  1. Was rather interested in finding out which one offered better performance in terms of stability of connection and speed? Have you had the chance to try them yet head to head?

  2. Dear respected Mr Haris,
First and foremost, thanks for the comment. I sincerely appreciate it.
Well, initially I had some problems with the connection on the USB modem. But when the problems were rectified, it was smooth......
Too bad I couldn't compare the speed of the modem with that of Unifi as its our house rule that once we're back home, leave all our work outside the door, yes, including no computers. Home is strictly for family time and activities.
I think it terms of speed, it really depends on where you are, whether the signal for that particular space that you're on is strong, you know, all that factors. While For Unifi, it's grounded and pretty stable. not only that, it comes with a video decoder, a digital telephone, which overall Unifi offers a better package.
We are considering whether to cancel our Astro now. But is Unifi really "all that"? only time can tell.
