She&#39;s a very good doctor and i have been seeing her for the past 3 years without any problem, it was her careless mistakes to have mistakenly given me a cervarix shot instead of gardasil. My question is, is this dangerous for my body? and will the protection still be effective? and do you recommend i still need to get another shot of gardasil? HPV is divided into oncogenic and non oncogenic type, and the oncogenic type is divided into three separate group, high risk, moderate risk , and low risk. <br />HPV subtype 16,18,31,33,45 are the top 5 of the high risk oncogenic type.Fortunately, the latest data showed that Cervarix gives protection against these 5 subtypes even though it is advertised as a bivalent vaccine. This makes Cervarix far more superior compared to Gardasil. Chances is you probably have HPV residing at the basal cell of the cervix, which is not detectable by Pap smear, or blood test. Pap smear should be done annually to detect early cervical cellular changes. I would insist that you request for Thin Prep pap smear from your doctor instead of the old conventional Pap Smear. Google the word thin prep pap smear on the search box in my blog. I&#39;ve written several articles on it. <br />However, even if you have HPV virus in you, 70% will be automatically resolved by the end of 1st year, and 90% by the end of 2nd year. Even if you don&#39;t have history of cancer in your family, that is not a full proof that you won&#39;t get it. <br />I would strongly suggest you to get yourself vaccinated. <br />I hope i have answered your inquiry. It is natural human tendency to believe such killer disease only happens to others, and not themselves. Even upon implementation of Cervical cancer awareness program where Ministry of Health offered free Pap smear, only 2% came for the test. If that&#39;s not sad enough, most doctors(except Gynecologist of course) in Malaysia didn&#39;t know about Thin Prep Pap Smear test, which is more accurate and being used in US as a screening method for Cervical Cancer.
